Hey Jesica! Congratulations on having a beb during the nicest time in all of Seattle! We’re going to have so much fun taking the summer off!!!

I am planning on using that very diaper service for our first few wet months. We have a friend who uses them and is very happy. After that, we’ll journey into the weird and wacky world of all those other brands until we figure out which ones fit our baby the best. Maybe our friend who is using the diaper service right now will have some sound advice for us? I will certainly keep reporting if I hear of anything!

I’ve been following your blog for a few months now, and thought I’d say hi, and THANK YOU for this particular post and link. My first kid is due in June (exactly a month after yours, which helps to explain why I’m so glued to your journey), and we’re Seattlites.

We also don’t have a car (and don’t plan to get one, even though it makes us nervous), and we’ll be cloth diapering. It was such a relief to read your frustrations with all the confusing acronyms and options! I mean, seriously?! It’s a diaper! I’m so glad you’re happy with your diapering service! I was thinking that we were going to do a service for when we have a newborn as well. I figure that we can graduate to the fancier diapers with inserts and the works later, when we don’t have to go through quite so many. Does the service deliver traditional cloth diapers with pins and the like? Is there a cover that your baby wears?

On another subject, I saw you getting your hair done at Vain when you were very pregnant, and wondered who the adorable lady with pink braids was. Jenny Slay told me that it was Ariel, and I kicked myself for not asking while you were still in the chair, so I could say hi! Next time, we will actually meet!

The complaining is something that I actually had to specifically address when I was scheming Offbeat Mama and its commenting policy. Sadly, there’s a LOT of negativity out there in family blog land — both whining and bitching. I think it’s a combo of dealing with parenting challenges combined with the vent-prone nature of the web … it means there’s LOTS of negative crap out there.

As for the diaper thing: OMG YES. Did you see the post I just wrote about cloth diapers? I’m totally happy with doing them (we do baby diaper service, which is awesome!) but get completely overwhelmed by all the acronyms and fetishizing over all the different options. Back in my babysitting days, we used safety pins and plastic pants. AND WE LIKED IT!

i agree completely with the acronyms! why can’t you just type it out? it’s not that much harder. . .thanks for sharing in my frustrations!
